The first block of filming for Pimienta has been completed, marking the first feature film photographed by David Chávez. This project stands as a significant milestone and a strong starting point, demonstrating that even within the constraints of a modest budget, it is possible to achieve a sensitive, professional, and visually refined cinematography on par with higher-end productions.

This was made possible through David Chávez’s extensive experience across the camera department, as well as his background in high-end productions as a DIT, camera and color workflow designer, and colorist. That combined perspective allowed for a level of control and intention rarely seen at this scale of production.

One of the key achievements of the project was the ability to bring the image closer to its final form directly on set. This was accomplished through a carefully designed camera pipeline and a custom LUT tailored specifically to the camera system and the visual direction of the film. Chávez’s deep connection between camera and post-production enabled a workflow where creative intent was preserved from capture through finishing.

Pimienta represents not only a creative accomplishment, but also a clear statement of a cinematographic approach that bridges technical precision with visual storytelling, regardless of scale.
