About
David Chávez
David Chávez is a DIT and Colorist with a strong technical foundation and a comprehensive understanding of the image pipeline, from camera capture through post-production and final delivery. His experience extends beyond on-set operations, encompassing deep knowledge of color grading, post workflows, and image finishing, positioning him as a reliable and integral part of high-end productions.
He has collaborated on projects for some of the world’s leading platforms, working within demanding environments where precision, consistency, and efficiency are critical. This experience has shaped a workflow-driven approach that ensures the integrity of the image is maintained across every stage of the process.
As both a DIT and colorist, Chávez combines technical expertise with a strong creative sensibility. His work is not limited to image management — he actively contributes to the visual development of each project, using color grading as a tool to enhance and elevate the cinematographer’s intent. His approach is grounded in a balance between sensitivity, aesthetics, and technical accuracy.
A key aspect of his workflow is the management of multiple color spaces, allowing for a more flexible and controlled image pipeline. This approach enables a higher level of precision in color grading, surpassing the limitations of more traditional single-space workflows and ensuring that the image retains its full potential from capture to final master.
His expertise in camera workflows allows him to maintain full control over camera settings, signal management, and on-set monitoring. He ensures that the image presented on set becomes a reliable starting point for the color suite, maintaining continuity between production and post.
What distinguishes Chávez on set is his ability to anticipate how exposure and color decisions will translate throughout the entire pipeline — from capture, through post-production, and into final mastering. This foresight allows him to support the cinematographer not only in achieving the desired look on set, but also in ensuring that the material is technically robust for VFX integration and finishing.
This combination of technical control, creative sensitivity, and end-to-end workflow knowledge makes him a key collaborator and a trusted partner for cinematographers on technically demanding, VFX-heavy, and high-end productions.
